Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) is a recognised private deemed-to-be university established in 1981 by the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM). The designation implies that NMIMS is on a track, through degrees and diplomas, to reach the level of traditional universities, which is seen as a mark of recognition. NMIMS started as an institute with a management focus, but has evolved into a multi-disciplinary university that comprises several constituent schools (management, engineering, pharmacy, commerce, law, liberal arts, design, and related areas). NMIMS offers a unique online/distance education programme, the NMIMS Online Centre for Distance & Online Education (CDOE), with career-oriented technology-mediated programs (including online MBA options for practising professionals) for working professionals and learners not in attendance. CDOE aims to enhance employee involvement in education by offering applied education, including recorded classes and live classes, with flexibility in learning delivery.

The University is accredited by NAAC (A+, CGPA 3.59) at its main campus, and was also recognised with graded/autonomous status from regulatory bodies – a long-standing recognition of the quality of the institution concerning teaching, research, and governance. Both the institution’s self-study reports and accreditation reports are used to evidence the governance, infrastructure, and quality assurance processes of the University.
